Back to EA3 course overview

The course will be held at the Grand Hotel San Michele (www.sanmichele.it), where all the participants will be also accommodated and the University of Calabria in Rende (CS).

The University of Calabria (www.unical.it) is a state-run university in Italy. Located in Arcavacata di Rende, a suburb of Cosenza, the university was founded in 1972. It currently has about 35,000 students, 800 teaching and research staff and about 700 administrative staff.

The Campus of the University of Calabria was originally designed by Vittorio Gregotti and Dänen Martensson. The buildings are situated along a suspension bridge, which is currently 1.3 kilometres long. As in British and North-American campuses, students live in specific residential blocks near the University. The whole structure is swathed in greenery of hills near Arcavacata, a small village at 10 km from Cosenza.

Calabria

Calabria is the tip of the Italian peninsula; it borders with Basilicata and stretches between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the lonian Sea in the direction of Sicily, from which it is divided by the Strait of Messina.

Cetraro

Cetraro Marina, a pleasant seaside resort is about two km from the Cetraro Comune of which it is a part. The ancient Citrarium (name derived from the abundant citrus cultivation in the area) was a center of the Bruzi rising between Paola and Capo Bonifati. Its coast location offers many interesting boat excursions.
